From a Dreary Thursday to a Digital Passion

Hi, I’m Jeff Porter. If you’ve ever felt like your computer was winning the argument, believe me—I’ve been there.

I didn’t grow up with computers. In fact, for a long time, I actively struggled with them. The terminology felt like a wall, and the software felt like a puzzle with missing pieces. My “breaking point” was a marathon seven-day battle with a dial-up modem.

Against all odds, on a cold winter night, I finally heard that familiar connection hiss. Seeing that first webpage load changed everything. Since that day, I’ve been fascinated by how the internet brings us together and how technology, once understood, can be a tool for anyone. I started this site to share that fascination with you—minus the week-long headache.

Why Windows?

I started my journey with Windows 95. I still remember the “huge beige box” it lived in: a 2GB hard drive and a whopping 8MB of RAM. It was brilliant.

While I’ve experimented with Linux (and still keep a dedicated Linux machine for testing), Windows is my home. I believe in being an expert in one thing rather than “okay” at everything. Because I want to provide the most confident, reliable advice possible, this site focuses purely on the Windows ecosystem.

The Aim of Easy Computer Guides

I work with people of all ages and abilities—from absolute beginners to advanced gamers. Easy Computer Guides is my attempt to show everyone, regardless of their starting point, how to master their machine.

In our digital age, not using a PC puts you at a real disadvantage. Whether it’s a TV program telling you to “visit the website” or a restaurant asking you to “scan the QR code,” the digital world is everywhere. I want to ensure no one feels left behind.

Building Confidence Through Understanding

When I show someone how to complete a task or explain what a cryptic popup message actually means, I see their self-confidence grow in real-time.

Understanding is the key to losing the fear. My guides don’t just show you what to click; they explain why you’re clicking it. My goal is to give you simple, honest, and straightforward advice that you can trust to work every time.
